Making outcomes matter.

When reimbursement doesn’t exist for the type of care we want to give, we build it ourselves.

We want people in the communities we serve to thrive, and to do it, they sometimes need innovative care that goes beyond what traditional insurance companies are willing to cover. Our care guides, for example, provide a unique and valuable service to customers that allows them to get ahead of potential health problems and to plan for the future. But care guides don’t just help keep people healthy. They also save money for insurers by avoiding preventable diseases and providing care early in the process, before an emergency happens. Unfortunately, insurers traditionally haven’t recognized the mutual benefits of programs like this, and health care providers like Allina Health have struggled to find a way to convince them that what’s good for our customers can also be good for them.

Things are about to change because we’ve found an insurance partner with goals that align with our own, and we’re going to start working together in a whole new way.

To do it, we’re working together to create a new system that focuses on outcomes rather than volume of services. What matters, after all, is how healthy our customers are.

Allina Health has partnered with Aetna to create a jointly owned health plan company that will allow us to provide the care our customers need in a way that’s sustainable and affordable for them and us. With Aetna’s help, we can build a system that provides for the best possible outcomes for the people we serve, but also works hard for Allina Health.

To do it, we’re working together to create a new system that focuses on outcomes rather than volume of services. What matters, after all, is how healthy our customers are, and not how often they come to see us or how expensive their visits are. With that as our goal, and with an insurance partner who shares that goal, the people we serve will have a new, better experience that changes their health care – and their health – for the better.

Allina Health will benefit, too, because the care we’re already providing and the whole-person approach that defines our future will be part of a system that understands and supports our goals. This new partnership combines Allina Health’s ability to respond to specific community health needs and its clinical health data with Aetna’s leading health plan expertise, cutting-edge data, analytics and health information technology.

Together, Allina Health and Aetna are creating unique health plans that serve our customers and our business better.
